Return of the Sun

This rising sun was born on the longest night, the tipping point of dark versus light. I attached sprigs of freshly cut evergreen cedar and set it under the prairie moon to rest in the night’s darkness to greet the rising sun of the winter solstice. Even though we still have long nights ahead, there is a definite turn toward the light season now and days are once again growing longer. Soon a new growing season will be upon us. For extra measure, the painting rested under the grand conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn, soaking up the goodness of this rare alignment. Painted in waning days of 2020 to usher in a new year, it has stone texture, imprinted grain, burnt prairie sage, rust and paint. A symbol of the sun, its message is, “I walked through the darkness, now I luxuriate in the light.”
