18 x 18 on hardboard
Not all seeds are ready to grow. The prairie often requires her seeds to scarify in cold and ice in order to crack the hard shells so they may sprout. Often this takes many years of freezing and thawing. At such times, nature teaches that the difficulties we endure are not forever, but a preparation for things to come. This piece is my rendition of seeds cocooned in cold, preparing for the future. Indentations are corn and hemp seeds embedded in handmade stone texture and accented with iron oxidized to rust and acrylic to symbolize the passage of time.
