Moon of the Falling Cottonwoods

In October, the Cottonwood leaves turn golden and fall. There is something especially poignant about that, because the Cottonwood is reputed to be a whisper tree that shares her wisdom with those who would listen. For this moon I wanted to honor the Cottonwood and incorporate as many earth elements as possible, especially those of the river, because the tree has a special relationship with water and grows near rivers and hidden ponds. So this piece has the earth element of Smoky Hill river silt, along with colors and textures wrought by wild prairie sage ash, Indian grass, rust, grain, and copper and gold mica flakes to remind you that that answers to life’s questions lie within you.
